Few sailboats like to steam into a head sea, and Amistad is no exception, a fact that I was reminded of yesterday.  Charged with lunch clean up, I grimaced as one by one my watch ran up on deck to lose the lunch that they had only recently fought down.  As I watched them disappear up the companionway, I admit that my initial thoughts ran along the lines of, “Oh Jesus, this is going to be a long semester.”  However, my team quickly proved stronger than their stomachs, filtering back down into the galley to fight their way through it, drying dishes in-between rounds of puking on deck.  My cynicism dissipated, and I took solace in the fact that anyone can wash dishes, but it takes a real sailor to do so while vomiting.
