When we were in London, the class visited the Docklands Museum to view and critique the exhibit, " London, Sugar, and Slavery. I found the exhibit was not really not a good description of the transatlantic slave trade's effect on London. Although it has some great points about how this major European city came to be involved in the triangle trade, it did not go into enough details about how London fit within the context of the Atlantic world. It did not really go deep into the slave trade in England beyond sugar and unlike other exhibits we visited in Bristol there was no discussion of slavery's lasting impact on Black communities living in London today. I did learn some new things about London, and public history. I learned that the slave trade helped shape most of London's' industrial, and financial profit as well as, helping to shape London into what the city is today. Overall, I would say that he exhibit was good but not good enough for a city the size and importance of London. Comments
