Well here I am second day out at sea, these past couple have days have certainly been ones that quite a good start to my exciting adventure. All started off 7:00 Saturday morning when we were moved onto our new home for the next four months, The Amistad! We all ate a great first meal with the crew and quickly got sorted into groups to start soles and bowls and other morning chores. Soon after that the boat opened up for its last day of tours in Liverpool. Us students got to watch and learn how the other crewmembers interpreted the story and the other facts about the ship. After a full day or passengers aboard the ship we got to eat and make up our bunks. I’m sleeping in the main salon, which is pretty cool besides the fact that it sometimes gets a bit hot from the galley. The first night of watch on the boat was pretty good, we each got placed with a crewmember and went around and did boat checks. Second day was very exciting! We had breakfast then soles and bowls and at 9:30 we left Albert dock, and I can’t lie I was super excited. I was kind of sad waving good-bye to Liverpool but am very excited to see Molly’s home town Bristol. As we sailed down the Mersey River I thought to myself hey this isn’t so bad maybe I wont get sick. And you know what… I got sick! Hahaha it started of sloe with just a queasy feeling and I figure best why to not feel sick is to put your mind on something else. And that is what I did; I volunteered myself to be the first student on our leg to climb out into the bowsprit. So I harnessed myself up and started to climb out with Ella, which was a bit nerve wracking. There was so many cords and the water was splashing around and along with my bit of seasickness it wasn’t the best first experienced. But I stayed out there and we finished up what we had to do and I scurried right back in cause I didn’t think I could last too much longer, and I was right and headed right over to the side of the boat to join Lesandra who had unfortunately been sick since we started moving. Second day wasn’t so bad, no seasickness from me which I am very glad to report. We started off the morning doing emergency drills then we each got a turn to climb aloft and it actually wasn’t too bad. As you got closer to the top and your foot space became more limited it was a bit harder but I shimmied up fairly quickly for a first timer, and the view was really good up there. The rest of the morning was spent learning about the different lines and sails. Lunch was great of course and our cook Danny is great! C watch (which is my watch) was on duty from 1- 7 but the students had class at 4. During watch I got to steer the boat and learn more about doing my boat checks more efficiently. In class at we got to watch the first part of roots which I had already seen before but paid close attention to things in which have been talking about already in class. Dinner tonight was fantastic, we have pork chops and pasta and veggies. The best part of my whole second day though would have to be our first sighting of dolphins after dinner! It was incredible they were all swimming along with the boat and jumping, and you could actually hear them. Well that’s all for now I’m going to get some sleep and have some dreams of swimming with the dolphins. Good night!
