The opening scene of  the movie Amistad was very powerful to me.  It shows how slaves tried and succeed in taking over a ship. I think this was a great opening to the movie it grabbed your attention. Also it was powerful how the Black and White abolitionist gave the slaves hope and in the end helped them get home even though the slaves used violence to resist being enslaved. The language issue was also a  big part in the movie because the slaves spoke Mende, and the abolitionist spoke English so they could not really stand up for themselves in court or help the lawyers fight for them. Finally the treatment of the slaves on the ships was terrible. They had children and babies on bored while they whipped and beat slaves.   It was very powerful for me to see that  on slave ships they didn’t feed the sick and sometimes threw them overboard. The slaves were treated like cattle instead of human beings.
