The Freedom Schooner Amistad completed its first transatlantic crossing today triumphantly sailing into the harbor of Falmouth, located on England’s southwest coast.

“Congratulations to the captain, crew and students aboard the Amistad for a tremendous success,” declared Amistad America’s Chair, William A. Minter. 

“The Amistad crew has validated for the world to witness the integrity of a dream: that the craftsmen of Mystic Seaport could produce a vessel capable of such a feat and that we at Amistad America could assemble a crew with the skills and experience to accomplish such a voyage.  You have all earned the title of “Amistad Heroes.”  The “homecoming” has truly begun.”

The Amistad will lie at anchor in the harbor for the night, clear customs and will be docking on Wednesday, August 8th at 14:00 Local Time ( 10:00 EDT)  at County Wharf at Falmouth Docks for a public arrival ceremony.  More to come…
