I can’t sleep E-mail

My watch had our 12 hour day off again. It would be lovely if it could be a straight 12 hours but after watch we eat, clean up and dishes which includes soles and bowls (we did aft cabin and the fos’cle while on watch.) The clean up process went by fast. I would normally go to sleep but Erica was awake so I sat in her bunk, chatted and made her write a verse to my song. It is heavy! Trust! And don’t worry, you’ll get a preview soon!

So keep a look out! Lunch was really good, we had a beef curry with potatoes-something different and nice to have on the boat. I managed to get a short nap in before class but I’m still finding it pretty difficult to get to sleep. I don’t know what it is, but my brain just refuses to go into murmur mode. It gets really frustrating and I just wanna sleep! Today’s class was on the Amistad Captives Biographies. The descriptions and pictures were quite interesting. We discussed the issue of phrenology as we talked about the stereotypical characteristics and features used to describe the Africans. I learnt that this method was also used by Nazi’s for Jews. Dinner provided food I had never seen before- asian vegetables and coconut shrimps. There was also peanut butter noodle but I didn’t try that, I despise peanut butter. Watch from 1900 to 2300 also went quite fast which I was more than happy with, being the Junior Watch Officer. As we mustered mid-ships before we relieved the watch before us, I was told we would be starting the motors. This made me rather happy. When those engines rev I get excited. The opposite happens when it throttle backs. The motors have been running ever since and its now 0700 in the morning. It was nice to wake up to the sound of the engine, it gives me hope that were actually getting somewhere, forward, to ENGLAND!
