Hey, today I had an awesome time. After going from my 3am to 7am watch, setting the top gallant sail (which made our ship look even more beautiful) and eating breakfast (which consisted of boiled eggs that I ate solely because they remind me of my mum and her healthy eating regime), we all had a field day. We had already been briefed yesterday so we were well prepared to get dirty-well I sure was!

It was basically a full on clean of the Amistad. Today would have been my 12 hour day off but the music we had played to get us in good spirits definately did that trick for me as I scrubbed away in the galley. It was loud enough for everyone on deck to hear, wherever they were cleaning so it was a cleaning party. The fact that the weather once again was absolutely gorgeous kept us smiling, joking and laughing but we got the job done and done well.
I had three first experiences today-all of which were fantastic. First of all, and the sweetest, was that I saw dolphins. I love dolphins so much but have never seen them in real-life. There were about 7 of them all swimming together. I was staring ni awe at the cuteness. I always thought I would have to go to DisneyWorld to see dolphins and hope I would get that experience onboard the Amistad. Today I did and I am still quite overwhelmed. It was beautiful.
Also today, I did laundry using salt water. I didn’t think it would take so long but it did! Logan and I worked and washed together so it wasn’t too bad but I’ll tell you one thing- I‘m happy about having clean clothes to wear now! As we rinsed and dried, we started discussing the Amistad Africans. I was asked what it must have been like for them doing their laundry, however I think and answered that I don’t think they did alot, if any as the probably didn’t have clothes, like most slaves.
Finally I had my first on deck shower. It was defiantly an experience- I can tell you that much. All I kept thinking throughout me rubbing shower gel over me was ‘ I can’t believe I’m doing this!’ But it was fantastic and I’m so happy to be fresh and clean. I’m not sure how long it will last though!
