Opening dateThe International Slavery Museum will open on Thursday 23 August 2007. Opening timesThere will be extended opening hours of 9.45am-7pm on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 August. The museum will open early from 9.45am-5pm from Saturday 25 to Tuesday 28 August 2007. From Wednesday 29 August 2007 the museum will be open daily 10am-5pm. Free admission tickets
Admission to all the National Museums Liverpool venues is FREE. All exhibitions, events and activities at National Museums Liverpool are also FREE From Thursday 23 to Tuesday 28 August inclusive there will be a ticketing system in place in order for us to let as many people as possible get a taster of the new museum. Tickets are free and will be available at Merseyside Maritime Museum and the International Slavery Museum from Thursday 23 August 2007. They are not pre-bookable. Tickets will be available for sessions starting at 10am, and then on the hour every hour. How to find usThe first phase of the museum will be located within Merseyside Maritime Museum building in the Albert Dock. Please note that the riverside walkway between Pier Head and the Albert Dock will be closed until early 2009 while construction takes place in the area. Visitors are advised to use the Dock Road route until the riverside walkway is open again. Roadworks affecting the Albert Dock areaMajor roadworks are currently taking place in the Albert Dock area which may affect Strand Street and other routes to the museum. For the latest news about all developments affecting roads, streets and public spaces in the city centre please check Liverpool City Council's Big Dig website, which is updated regularly. Car parkingCharged car and coach parking is available at the adjacent King's Dock. Please note that the car park at Mann Island is now closed. Access for people with disabilitiesThere is access for visitors with disabilities to all National Museums Liverpool, although limited restrictions apply. All sites have adapted toilet facilities, with the exception of the Piermaster's House. Wheelchair access is not possible to Piermaster's House. There are two ramped accesses (gradients 1:12 and 1:15) and a lift to upper floors. Light levels in some areas of the museum might be low because of the sensitivity of objects. Guide and hearing dogs welcome. Table service, braille and large print menus are available in the cafe. Seating is available in the galleries. Café and shopOverlooking the Albert Dock, the Maritime Museum café on the 4th floor offers a selection of hot and cold meals, cakes and refreshments. There is also a cafe on the ground floor next door to the museum shop, which has a wide range of souvenirs and gifts, including books, postcards and posters.
