After pulling up the anchor and docking at Sambro, I spent the morning helping to secure the tagallant to the shrouds, learning a bunch of new knots in the process. In the afternoon I got to go aloft for the first time! I went up to the top yard with Paul to re-tie the sail. I wasn’t too nervous once I figured out where safe handholds were, but I was glad we were docked and not tossing around in the middle of the ocean. I wonder if the Africans had to go aloft often back in 1839. I think it’s a safe bet that they didn’t have safety harnesses with them… Trackback(0)
