Helping My Watch. E-mail

I spend a lot of time thinking about how to help my watch be the best that they can be.  It’s hard for me to imagine the task that they have undertaken – three teenagers with no marine experience who have become determined to cross an ocean.  How do I best equip them to do so?

Should I talk them through every step, or let them stumble learn and through their mistakes? While I’m pretty sure that my pedagogy has reflected my own confusion as to how to best guide them, they seem to be getting it.  They all have their talents – Erica learns new knots just as quickly as I can tie them for her, Mike skills as a helmsman surpass that of any ordinary beginner, and Imogen displays a level of attentiveness to detail that makes me proud.  While I doubt that any of them will decide to turn their talents to the sea in the long term, I love watching them discover their capacity to do so.
