As having recently joined the crew of the SSV Amistad I am very excited to share with you all the amazing adventures we are having. We are on our way to Shelburne, Nova Scotia. The land is beautiful and smells like pine trees at night when we are anchored. We have had beautiful sails these past few days. We have three days to get to our destination when it will only take us a day and a half. So we have been taking it nice and easy, enjoying the relaxed pace. Last night we had Thanksgiving Dinner. I love boats because I can have a thanksgiving feast more then once a year. Our great cook David roasted a huge turkey with all the fixings. We all sat together and had a great time with our on board family. Living and working on a boat like this we create a family. You can’t choose whose in your family, but you learn to get along and depend on each other. We come together and bond under the best and the worst conditions, making that family bond even stronger. It’s these times that I remember why I love to sail. Its very relaxing thing to drifting along with the wind in the sails, you can really sit back and connect with the environment around you. I can really feel a part of the forces around me. It’s kind of scary but also awe-inspiring when I think about all the amazing creatures in the water underneath me. With perfect weather and a great crew I can’t think of a place I would rather be. Comments
