Freedom Schooner Amistad today closed her gigantic 14,000 mile log loop of the 2007/2008 Atlantic Freedom Tour by crossing her own track from late June last year. More than 11 months ago, Connecticut's Official Flagship and Tall Ship Ambassador embarked on that voyage. Today, the schooner, slightly worn and tired, returned to her birthplace: Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic, Connecticut.

The schooner, used to basking in the tropical sun through last several month, was greeted by a gray New England weather. Among few people witnessing her arrival was Bob Craft who shot historical pictuere of Amistad sailing under the Maystic Bridge. .On March 25, 2000, Amistad was launched there, after a two-year construction period in the Henry B. duPont Preservation Shipyard, under the supervision of Quentin Snediker, Shipyard Director. He and his experienced team of shipwrights and riggers will help Amistad's crew, commanded by Captain John Beebe-Center, bring the ship to her glory - just in time for the Official Homecoming to Amistad's Homeport, New Haven, Connecticut, planned for June 21st - exactly one year since she sailed away from Long Wharf.
