Now, in some ways we are happy that we’re going this speed because there might be a few with us with land fever, but there are a few downfalls to this speed as well. One, depending on which tack we are on, you are either almost falling out of your bunk or pushed into the little shelves that are built in.
Two, while below decks in the main saloon, it can be pretty difficult to make it from one side of the ship to the other, taking your time, grabbing on to anything possible to get to the other side safely without falling backwards. Three, hourly there is a boat check done where pumping of bilges is needed, the foc’sle being my all-time favorite and I’ll tell you why. It's not because I like climbing down the small set of steep, sometimes slippery, wet steps with a bucket in my hand, or even pumping the stinky, murky bilge water into that bucket.
But my new reason why I love the foc’sle so much is because now instead of doing just 6-10 pumps every time, its now 50-60, which means, carrying the little blue bucket up those steep, slippery steps, with the boat rolling and pitching every step about 6 or 7 times to pour it overboard.
What an adventure! Every time wondering if you’ll make it up without spilling the sweet-smelling water on you or one of the foc’sle peeps.
With that I would like to extend a Happy Mothers Day to all the Mothers out there; especially to my amazing mother, grandmothers and sister! See you all soon!
