It never ceases to amaze me, here we are on a wonderful point of sailing on the downhill run having passed the halfway mark in our trip across the middle passage. Now 385 miles from Barbados, there is a sweep running as to who will give the closest call to land we are all putting times down. It must be of course line of sight from the deck of the Amistad, no hanging off the top of the mainmast cap. NO definitely not allowed!!
There is much asking by the land sick when will we arrive, where will we arrive. What also comes from this is a certain upbeat feel to all proceedings aboard. When we arrive there will be comings and goings from the crew, some leave others will join, and so the mission goes onwards.
We are trying to spruce up the ship somewhat and are stripping and varnishing work that has been well worn over the time since leaving stateside for England and then Africa and now Barbados. So if you will please excuse the ship all who see her. This old lady has done a fair amount of traveling.
“When the purple disappears and only blue is seen,
We`ll look back and follow her track for a last long look at the land”
Well we have done that bit and had some wonderful sailing to boot.
