Amistad's A-Sailin’ E-mail
Written by Toby Clarkson - Student ('08)

Amistad's a-sailin’
Her crew ain’t yet whalin’
The JT wasn’t workin'
Our chief mate was a lurkin’

Amistad is comin’
The tunes we are a-hummin’
Guitars they will be playin’
Can almost hear that prayin’

Nobody wants a wreck
So we do those boat checks
We gotta make sure to
INSPECT THE DECK

Barbados does await
To create amazing fate
To tell the great story
Of the ancestors' glory

A great welcome is planned
For the hardy stad clan
We’ll embrace every word
Fogo dropped another …

Mickey won’t come down
The office might frown
Stuck in the rigging
Can you hear the monkey singing?

The history some fear
Makes others see clear
Don’t be afraid to be blunt
We all must confront

The brave they rose up
They began to erupt
Took back their lives
They began to survive

Please! Please! No autographs!!

Toby

Toby.....it's Friday, April 18th and I just saw a picture of you with Fogo. What a precious dog! Will you be able to get him thru Customs? How does that work? An article about Fogo and the crew was in a CT newspaper. One of our Clarkson cousins sent it to me and I've passed it around to everyone. You, too, look good and healthy. All is well here and we can't wait to see you and dad in Charleston. Many hugs from all of us in the Carolinas.

dog,

i cant believe i didnt know about this blog til now. a lil bit late, but i've caught myself up.

glad to hear shane was given a wonderful sendoff. i hadn't heard the news of his passing.

i couldn't be more jealous of you right now, the trip sounds incredible and i'm quite upset i've missed out on it. make sure to make the best of it, as i'm sure you will, for me and all the other landlocked brothas here in the state of texas.

"And I do not know my own way to the sea
but the saltiest sea knows its own way to me."

in this case, through your blog.

enjoy yourself, enjoy the sea.
