Hello, I am Seco, a crew member of Amistad. Well, it's amazing sailing across the Atlantic, even though it's my first time. Amistad has a spirit of reflection in our history. And I am appealing to all Amistad to sail even once in their lives. Sailing brings us to the imagination, of how the Trans-Atlantic slave trade was conducted.
I am of Sierra Leonean origin and Guinean nationality; I reside in Cape Verde, where I first set eyes on Amistad. I was brought to tears, and I said to myself, I would be very grateful if I could sail on this boat to imagine my forefathers' struggle. To me, it is not only about sailing, but is like paying a tribute, in other words, a pilgrimage. My experience on board Amistad is like the renaissance. I want to invite everybody to Amistad.
Today is the fourteenth day in our voyage to Barbados. From Barbados, I want to make it to Charleston (South Carolina). I miss my wife and my two daughters, Djamila and Dunia, who is just 20 days old. I want to thank the captain for her courage and strength.
