So far so good E-mail

It is three days into the transatlantic, and so far so good. We could not have asked for better weather. Spirits are good and the sailing has been smooth. Nonetheless, there are many unpredictable days ahead. Today during Amistad class, a rather vibrant discussion was held about whether or not Cape Verdeans believe they are truly Africans. My feeling is that it is impossible to answer because every Cape Verdean could feel differently. From my experiences talking with the people of Cape Verde, some believe they are and some believe they aren’t. All I know is that I will miss Cape Verde as well as Africa in general, and hope to return someday.
It is amazing how fast Fogo has been growing. It seems like everyday when I play with her she is a little bigger and a little stronger. I am sure that by the time we reach Barbados she will be close to full-grown. I am making sure to take as many pictures of her short but sweet “puppy hood.” Miss you all.
