After weeks of Strong NE'lies we began to get a calmer sea yesterday and early this AM the wind began to mitigate as well. Shook the reef out of the main at 3 AM and set the gaff topsail and jt at dawn under a pink and red sky. Collected all the flying fish that had snuck by our watches last night and set the fishing line - all the flying fish darting out of the water everywhere you would think there were tons of bigger fish out there - but the last two days have been a bust big fish wise. We are however in 14,000 ft of water which is likely to explain the lack of big fish activity. We are headed for some banks and slope waters in the next few days so we are hoping to restock our freezer before heading in to SL.
The water temp is now 81 degrees - making each wave that washed the deck a welcome foot bath.
Great ship reports yesterday - including fortune tellers, demonstrations on how to put flying fish on the hook for big fish fishing, a talk on how diesel engines work including the usual group participation rap: "Suck, squeeze, bang blow" illustrating a four stroke cycle.
Looks like another day at the office..... we can hear Dakar on the VHF.
