Arrival E-mail

We anchored half an hour before midnight on the fourth, waiting for daylight to go alongside. After breakfast at 0700 we turned-to on the boat and gave her a good cleaning up and washing down, then went alongside at the Marina de Cascais, where everybody has had a chance to go ashore. It's Portugal's holiday celebrating the abdication of the king in 1912 (so they tell me), so the banks are all closed.

Arrival is always an anti-climax. After days of looking forward to getting there, and now we're here, and it seldom lives up to expectations. The city is quaint, overrun with tourists. It's very nice to walk ashore, and not have the ground pitching and rolling. Also to sleep through the night.
