Entenmann's wins E-mail

For those of you who have lived or live now in the Northeast, you know the standard, the rest of the bakery aisle is wasted until the Entenmann space. The coffee cakes are supreme, cookies decadent. Those of us who have moved on and away still recall the joy of a fresh Sunday paper and a warm cheese coffee cake. On the Amistad, we celebrate birthdays not according to the calendar, but according to morale. Poetry aside, food can fill the void of days at sea. My solution is to pick a candidate and let them choose the entrŽe for supper and the kind of cake for snack. When we're at sea, the only time we all spent together is ship's report and class in the afternoon. After the class is done we break for a snack and I usually bake something tasty. Well, today's person is Mike Moreland, our bos'n, and he has graciously taken on the mantle of birthday boy. At first he didn't like the idea, but as the attention grows, he's beginning to bask in it. It's fun to watch and to participate in honouring one of my fellows, especially when it's just a random day for them until they find out that we'll all be recognizing them during the day. Mike wants cream cheese coffee cake! Yipe!
Last night's supper was the last installment of turkey for the Thanksgiving season. There's a little stuffing left, but my captain likes to snack on that. So, I pulled out a small piece of salmon and broiled it with lemon, and made tetrazzini with the last of the bird. The other idea is a snack basket for each watch, not a new idea, but new for me. The gorp changes as we are able to purchase different items.
I think we're grateful to be back at sea. Rot didn't get too strong a foothold in the Canaries. Yesterday we saw the Tenacious, from Britain. She's about 220' long and is completely handicapped accessible, even in the yards! What a great program. She crossed our stern in the early afternoon, going south to catch the trades across the Atlantic.
Bread to bake and cake to make- love to my people-HK
