Dawn Watch E-mail

One of the nice things about dawn watch is that you get to enjoy the cool moment. It happens around five a.m. for about 90 seconds, I feel it on my eyeballs. Some of the locals call it something like alameda - this cool time of year. It lasts about a month between the rainy and dry seasons. The bugs aren't too bad, we were visited by a praying mantis yesterday, Eve had never seen one. I've seen many butterflies and a few big wasps. We also had two very talkative songbirds on the forestay for the afternoon. They were most pleasing.
So, I'm wounded, again. Once I got used to the motion of the boat in the Bay of Biscay, I stopped burning myself on the stove. Below I'm okay, on deck is another matter. Aft, I can navigate, but there's an eye bolt on the foredeck with many toes to it's credit. I've broken two in as many weeks. The second one I heard snap, yuck. So, relearning to be a boat chick isn't easy. (Sorry to modern females for the archaic term, but it is one I have used with pride in years past.)
Yesterday I cleaned out the fridge and my goal of under an hour has been realized. The first full day on board in September was spent upside down scrubbing that bad boy and I swore that once it was tended, I wouldn't need to have all the blood rush to my head like that anymore. I'm happy to say that I succeeded in that plan. I think it's also easier to hang like a bat now that the Freetown sauna has melted some of me away.
Love to my people. HK
