Freetown knows how to rock New Years. From watch on the boat I can hear music blasting over the river clearly from four places. The sky at midnight is illuminated with fireworks and red parachute flares. This is my first New Years at Greenwich Mean Time…and Africa. On Amistad, we celebrated early. With ice cream. Oh yeah. It was awesome.
Webmaster's Note: The ball Eve is writing about in her report s an obligatory day shape according to COLREGS (Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea ) - A vessel at anchor must display an all-round white light or one ball.

And we dropped the black anchor ball. We attached strobe lights to remind us of the New York ball drop. This year has been amazing, and I can only imagine next year will be better. Amistad has accomplished amazing feats this year as well, and I’m sure 2008 will only bring more success and adventure! Happy New Years!
