The day was looking long and hard. The Sankofa six were loaded with work from our professor Dr. Williams. We had enough work to keep us busy for days, but only had a few days to do it. While the Amistad crew set out for their two-day vacation in Portugal we were stuck on the boat working hard. We had two essays to complete; both one thousands words each. One on Portugal and it's public history sites, and the other on the movie Sankofa. In addition we also had to turn in a synopsis of our notes that we have taken (or suppose to have taken) from the following week while exploring Portugal, and all work that has been assigned from who knows when. As we sat down to brain storm, and organize our notes, you could feel the nerves flaring. I felt like I could never finish all this work in two days. As the day went on the students went their separate ways to find their place of comfort to work. "I never had to do two, one thousand word essay's in two days," I said to myself but remembered that my high school days are over and this is a college program. So finally I sat down and began to write, it was going well until writer's block hit and I retreated to my bunk and went to sleep. I was woken by Haley saying "Dustin you better get up and work on your paper." So I got up and began working again, and finally finished one essay around 2:00am and went to bed. The next morning we were all at it again desperate to finish knowing the professor would be returning around noon. We crammed throughout the day hoping, and praying that the professor did not show up. Finally we all were done with our papers and other work, and with luck: no sign of the professor. All the student were of glad that he did not show up or we would have been in big trouble, but we enjoyed each others company with relief, and relaxed the rest of the day until he arrived.
