Note from Webmaster: We have received a letter that tells a story of another Amistad - a boat already sailing in Sierra Leone. I believe that it clearly shows the power of potential influence of the Freedom Schooner visit in Freetown. Amistad and her story is an universal catalyst bringing inspiration and message of hope wherever she sails, making waves even well ahead of her arrival to Freetown.
Dear Captain Eliza Garfield, Captain William Pinkney and Education Coordinator Donald George!
I write to you on behalf of my son Ivan Aggrey Holsey, Freetown, Sierra Leone. He has tried to email you while in Freetown , but due to power shortage and black out for a long period he did not get through and had to return to his farm. I am his mother, Sonja Sarauw Holsey, living in Denmark with easy access to the internet, so I will send on to you information he has sms'd me! A brief explanation is necessary: Ivan is in contact with Amistad's ground crew, they took pictures of boat at Tombo Harbour a few days ago and are coming tomorrow Saturday to see his farm at Kisi Town, a few km before Tombo. The boat will be at Kisi town wharf, ca 400 m from Ivans farm. Ivan started the farm outside Kisi town shortly after the end of civil war. Before civil war he was offered land there, has good connections to the Kisi town fishing people, so together they cleared land, are experimenting with corn, sweet potatoes, pineapples and many tropical fruit trees. It gives jobs and food for many people! We lived in Freetown (US Peace Corps) from 1969 till 1972, both Ivan and I have a special close relation to the place. He has chosen to live there, I will visit! I have studied your very informative and fantastic website for the past few days, it makes me wish I was 25 and onboard! I will have to follow events on internet though. I wish good travel from Lisboa to Freetown to all on board the Amistad and hope some of you can visit and sail on Ivans Amistad! Kind regards, Sonja Sarauw Holsey

Hi sonya, I am so glad that Carol Marsh-Lockett asked me to google Ivan Holsey. Next I am going to try Phillipe. How are you and how are your boys and Sonya. Father Miller and Buddy had not heard anything from Phillipe or Ivan lately and we are all wondering how they are. I am getting married in February at Canterbury and want you all to attend. Please contact me by email.
Love to hear from you all!
