Originally from New York, I grew up sailing in Long Island Sound. After graduating from Bowdoin College in Maine, I started sailing on traditional schooners on the Maine coast. For the last 17 years, I have sailed mostly on ocean routes between the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and North Atlantic. In 1998-1999, I sailed as Master of the SSV Tole Mour in Hawaii.
I have a master’s degree and doctoral degree in education from Harvard University, specializing in the history and philosophy of American education. My primary area of interest is the history of African-American education and civil rights. Freedom Schooner Amistad is a wonderful opportunity to join my two deepest interests: sail training and civil education. |
